Bridging the Gulf The style of life described in this book differs from our own era of casual dress, informal worship, and talk of "friendship" with God. Later, the New Testament would spell out a God who is our Father, who can be approached at any time, who is interested in the personal details of our individual lives. But Numbers serves as an important background to that kind of relationship. It shows graphically just how great was the gulf between people and God, and helps us fully appreciate all that Jesus Christ did in providing a way across that gulf.
