| 3:3 How Big a City? Archaeologists who have dug up Nineveh report that at its peak its walls were 7 3/4 miles in circumference. Since it would not take three days to go around a city of that size, most probably the "three days" refers to the administrative district of which Nineveh was the capital. This comprised of four cities with a circumference of about 60 miles. Another possibility: perhaps it took Jonah three days to to to every neighborhood, marketplace, and city gate with his message. |
